CORRECT AS AT SUNDAY 14 AUGUST 2011
THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Welcome to our Services today!
9.15am Sung Mass at All Saints’
11am Sung Mass and Baptisms at Holy Trinity
1pm Baptism at Holy Trinity
(No Sunday Evening Services until 4 September)
CHURCH ROOFS
In common with many other churches and community buildings, we have lost roofing materials from both Holy Trinity and All Saints churches recently. If you see anyone you do not recognise on the roofs, please telephone the 101 helpline number or the police direct on 0845 045 4545. They will know how to forward your call. Take a note of any registration numbers if you can. Do not challenge or approach anyone yourself.
BAPTISMS AND WEDDINGS
If you live or worship in the Parish of Hawley, don’t delay in phoning Fr Martyn to book a wedding or a baptism. Weddings in Holy Trinity for 2011 can cost under £500, so if you qualify by residence, past or present, or if your parents have lived in the parish for at least six months during your lifetime, you could book yourself a service this year or next. Baptisms, of course, are free of charge.
OPEN CHURCH
We’re grateful for those who keep Holy Trinity open on weekday mornings. It’s much valued by those who call in. It would help to expand the team. Please sign up at Holy Trinity and Rita Davies will sort things out with you.
HALL CLEANER REQUIRED
The Halls Committee needs to recruit a new cleaner for All Saints’ Hall. For information and current conditions, please have a word with Jackie Davies on 01276 32410.
FLOWER FESTIVAL RAFFLE AND WORKSHOP
Diane Brown and Philippa Twinn invite you to buy tickets for the raffle (drawn on 28 August) to raise money for next year’s Flower Festival at Holy Trinity. They are also keen to sign you up for their hand-tied workshop of Saturday 17 September. More details in the insert.
PREPARATION FOR CONFIRMATION
Fr Martyn would like to know how many adults and young people would like to know more about the Confirmation preparation programme that will start this autumn. Please have a word with him when you see him or email him your details. He will be meeting Bishop Norman Banks, our new Provincial Episcopal Visitor, in early September and hopes to agree a date for the Confirmation with him then.
FREE MONEY (for the Church!)
£2,845 is our running total from the oddments of coin in our jars. Please bring your odd 5p, 2p and penny pieces to church to boost funds at little cost to you. Thank you.
TODAY’S BAPTISMS
We’re delighted to welcome Elizabeth Savill, Ella Monk, Madeleine Botwright and Megan Maclaren who are to be baptised this morning at Holy Trinity. We hope they, their parents, godparents, families and friends have a very enjoyable time here in church and afterwards at their continuing celebrations.
WILL YOU BE A PAYPAL?
Sometimes our visitors come to church without cash and are embarrassed to have missed out on the collection. We now have slips in the pews to help cashless visitors make a contribution to our work. Just follow the instructions.
EVENSONG SHUT DOWN
Our Sunday Evensong and Benediction will resume on 4 September. It has been good to see the congregation stabilise and grow over the last year or so. There’s always room for more, though.
OFF DUTY
Fr Martyn will be off duty for a while after today. Please contact the Churchwardens (Reg Denny 01276 32021 or Rita Davies 01276 24671) in his stead. They will know what to do and who to contact.
SOLICITATION
Our monstrance (for Benediction) needs refurbishment. All donations (in an envelope, please) care of Mary Kenny.
INTERCESSION BOARDS
We’re pleased to pray for people ill or in need and like to keep our information up to date. Please note that all the intercession cards on our boards dated before June 2011 will be removed after 4 September. If you’d like us to continue praying for people, please complete a fresh card or re-date the old one.
LOST SHEEP
Fr Martyn and the PCC would like to host a lunch in the autumn for people whom we don’t see at church on a regular basis any more. If you’ve noticed someone missing over the past months, please let Rita Davies have their names and she will make sure they are invited.
PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL
The PCC is due to meet next on Wednesday14 September at 8.15pm in Trinity Hall. We have a number of vacancies to be filled. If you would like to offer to serve on the PCC, please let our PCC secretary, Chris Young, know when you see him or have a word with either of the Churchwardens. Thank you.
CHILDREN’S CHUCH
Children’s Church resumes on Sunday 11 September. Of course, children are always welcome at all our services.
TAIZÉ CHANT AT ALL SAINTS’
In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful. In the Lord I will rejoice. Look to him. Do not be not afraid: in him rejoicing – the Lord is near. In him rejoicing – the Lord is near.
RELIEF IN NEED
Those living in Hart or Rushmoor may qualify for financial help from a local charity. Fr Martyn has the information.
HUSH
Please use the time before our services for prayer and reflection, rather than conversation with friends which can always be kept until afterwards. The noise level has risen considerably of late, especially at All Saints’ where there’s a temptation to stand in the porch talking quite loudly. There’s no problem with sidesmen and others greeting people quietly on arrival, of course, but let’s try to leave it at that. Thank you for your co-operation.
CARDS FOR ALL OCCASIONS
Diana McGrory (even from France!) offers a selection of cards at Holy Trinity catering for most occasions. All profits go to our churches.
201 CLUB
We are still supporting Step by Step, who help single, homeless people in the area. Membership is £12 per year, half going to the charity and half paid back to members in prizes. Tony and Sue Evans would be pleased to give you more information and sign up new members.
VICAR’S CALL
Fr Martyn is conscious that some people don’t find it convenient to catch him on a Sunday morning. If you’d like him to call, please contact him.
LAMPS UNDER BUSHELS
We’re always happy to have more people read the lessons, lead the prayers, serve at the altar on Sundays and midweek, help with the flowers, wash the linen, clean the churches, help with the gardening, keeping Holy Trinity church open during the week … and so on. From time to time our Stewardship Committee encourages us to respond but we can welcome offers at any time. If you don’t know who’s responsible for any activity, Fr Martyn will be pleased to point you in the right direction. All necessary help, training and encouragement will be given.
